This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kindergarten students need "in your face" learning materials to keep them engaged. Large charts around the classroom take up valuable wall space for student work. Charts on the wall distract the students and keep their minds busy and away from their work at their seats.

We are a high-needs school in an urban area.

We are a Kindergarten classroom with 25 students, half of which are English Language Learners. Some of my students still do not know their ABCs. We are in a smaller building away from the "main" building which houses over 800 students. Our classroom is always engaging with learning! We love to do centers and small group work! Our favorite centers are literacy centers, where we do rhyming activities, syllable claps, and ABC puzzles. Our classroom is bright and colorful! It is full of pictures so that we can learn all sorts of vocabulary and the English language!

My Project

One of the biggest obstacles a Kindergarten student faces is staying focused! With so much around them and so many things to remember, it's not always easy to complete the assignment or remember all that we need to do! Tabletop charts and pocket charts will help keep students on task by providing a "right at home" resource for them to use and monitor their learning and engagement. Personalized charts can also help differentiate our instruction around the room! We will also be able to use this during our centers activities, as well as for small group work. These stands will be used for word and concept sorts, building shared reading poems, and to help me (the teacher) scaffold instruction. This product will help many, many years of Kindergarten students to come!

With these pocket charts and tabletop stands, our classroom will be able to stay focused and maintain the ongoing differentiated instruction throughout each subject area.

There are so many uses for these charts, it's hard to put it all down! Let me try: personalized charts, poems, sorts, puzzles, interactive writing, counting math manipulatives, showing different ways to make a number, making a pattern with blocks, practicing sight words, retelling a story..PLEASE HELP! :)
