Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students from Corona, New York are part of a dual language math program. This program gives English Language Learners the opportunity to learn and become proficient in math through the Spanish and English language with their English speaking peers. Throughout this entire year my students have been working and become proficient in both languages using math vocabulary.

My students understand that speaking two languages will benefit them in their future career paths.

I am a bilingual teacher working in a low-income school with 30 inquisitive and bright students. The majority of my students come from low-income households who have extremely limited access to technology at home. In my classroom we currently have two computers and five tablets which limits the use of technology for the rest of the three tables in our lessons. I would love to continue incorporating technology during my math lessons to provide my students, who are English Language Learners and proficient English speakers, with access to different materials online to become proficient in both English and Spanish.

My Project

This is my second DonorsChoose project and I am more than excited! We currently received five Amazon Fire tablets from our first project and my students have been so excited to use them daily in class for our lessons. Sadly, we have eight tables and only five tablets, so either three tables don't get to use it that day or they have to share with another table every ten or so minutes.

We are requesting three more Fire tablets so every table has at least one tablet to use for our lessons.

By incorporating the use of one tablet per table, we will be able to access and use Nearpod for our lessons that will help our visual and English Language Learners.
