This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I foster a creative and student centered classroom. I would love for my kids to own their learning and learn from where they need to, whether that is sitting or standing. I would also love for students to be able to focus on their personalized lessons. The students create their own path to success.

My students are amazing children.

But, each and every one of them is extremely different. When I am teaching, some like to sit at their desk, others sit on the floor, and a good amount like to stand. Many of the standers have started complaining about back pain because they are constantly hunched over taking notes. I love that they own their learning by physically placing themselves in a place where they learn best. I just want to be able to support that better. Also, many of my students are highly, easily distracted. Each student has personalized computer lessons they go on and many times they are too distracted by other students lessons since they do not have working headphones, and so there will be 12 different lessons running at a given time. I know they want to learn and focus, but it's hard as a kid when there is so much stimuli around the room. These kids just deserve to learn the way they need to. I know they can be SO successful, if given the right tools and opportunities.

My Project

I can see it perfectly. When I stand at the board, ready to give my focus lesson, and the students have a few seconds to get themselves organized with materials and in the space they feel most successful, a few will walk over to the stand up desk and finally feel comfortable learning in the position they learn best. There will be so much more ready participation and engagement since they'll finally be in their comfortable space. The headphones will help students to focus on their computerized lessons without hearing others. The headphones will eliminate so much unnecessary noise and distraction. Students will finally be able to focus on their lesson, and their lesson only. The students at independent practice or in small group won't have to get distracted by the 10-12 computer volumes running at one time.

Donations to this project will change the flow and feel of my classroom.

It will help me foster the classroom environment that I have always envisioned. Most importantly, it will make the kids more comfortable. If they are comfortable, they are so much more prepared to learn--and I promise, there is nothing more that these kids want than to learn.
