My Students

My classroom is filled with vibrant kindergartners who have a thirst for learning. They are like sponges absorbing as much information as they can. By the end of the school year, they are confident and prepared for 1st grade. They are readers, writers and mathematicians.

My students come from a high poverty area of the nation's capital.

They are enthusiastic learners who love coming to school each day. My school is a high performing charter school that puts students first. Everything we do at school is based on what will be best for our students. We strive to get every child to college and have great careers.

My Project

I have requested a table that will be used during all small group times throughout the day. This table is set up so that the students will all be surrounding the teacher. I will be able to see right away who is not understanding what is being taught and who needs to be pushed further. It gives me the opportunity to check in with students and listen to them read, coaching them as they go. It brings students closer together to help provide them with opportunities to collaborate with each other as well.

This will help me to be a more effective teacher for my students.

It will give my students a place to meet in small groups to strengthen their skills in all subject areas. They will be able to get direct instruction from me in a group of 3 - 6 to ensure they are learning everything they need to set their foundations for the rest of their educational careers.
