Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a first grade teacher working in a Title I school. This is a low-income area where the majority of my students are underprivileged. My school currently serves approximately 8 shelters that include services for the homeless and drug rehabilitation centers.

Every day, I come to work with the motivation of making a difference in the life of a child.

My students don't have the privilege of coming to school with technological devices and other materials of their own. Although my students face many personal challenges daily, I try to provide them with the best education possible. I want them to have access to all the materials and resources that will allow them to learn and grow independently as the year evolves.

My students mean the world to me! Their happiness is my happiness! With the help of the DonorsChoose.org community, my students will have the chance to have a successful academic year. One that involves hands-on learning, comfort, smiles and fun.

My Project

These tables and chairs will allow my students to sit comfortably during class time instruction. Good seating ensures that learning goes on , and that students make right choices. My students often complain about wobbly tables and chairs. They many times rock their chairs and tables back and forth which causes distractions. Making sure that my students are comfortable in their learning environment is what motivates them to learn. I have noticed a great difference when my students are able to have different seating options.

My students are noticeably engaged in their work and less disruptive to their peers when they have a comfortable seating option.

These tables and chairs will give my students the opportunity to make more effective learning choices. They will be able to collaborate in group activities, work individually , and move their chairs easily throughout our classroom. All students should be entitled to good working stations during their time in a learning environment. These tables and chairs will fill us with happiness and comfort. The chairs are lightweight and perfect for first graders to move around through various group rotations and learning experiences.

I have seen how good seating impacts students work and demeanor. I hope that replacing our furniture with new tables and chairs will give us the opportunity to eliminate distractions, and focus on a better tomorrow!
