Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The best and easiest way to describe my students is that they are survivors. My class is a bilingual, prekindergarten classroom. I am charged with teaching them all other subjects in Spanish plus ESL. I have a class of 26 highly motivated and fully charged four-year-olds.

We have to try the impossible this year, teach four-year-olds during a pandemic.

My children and their families were hit hard by the pandemic. The majority of our families come from low socio-economic background. My kids are so curious and excited to be in school and do not realize that things are different because they have never been in school.

We do not want to burden our parents for any type of extra supply after what they went through. We are happy to be back in school, but we need some materials to replace what we used last school year. We hope these items would help our new students adjust to the huge changes in their little lives.

My Project

The table I choose for this project will allow me be closer to my students while we are in the small group class. The horseshoe table allows the teacher to get closer and work more in depth with each student. This table also has a table top made out of marker board which will allow my students to draw and work on it without having to buy extra dry erase boards.

The table and seat sacks will allow better communication and organization in my classroom.

The seat sacks will coordinate with the colors I use to organize my student groups and matches my carpet for whole group. In other words, if you are on the red table you will have a red seat sack and sit on a red square on the carpet. The seat sack will allow my students to have all of their materials on hand and readily available. In this pandemic we are not allowed to "share" materials any more so each student has to have their own set of materials. This will also help my students be more organized and always ready.
