My fourth grade class is a very funny and smart group of students. They come from diverse backgrounds and differing social and economic standings in their communities. They know that everyone in our classroom is completely different and our school has high expectations regarding respecting our teachers and classmates.
I teach science and math to my homeroom students, and to a team teacher's homeroom that I switch with during the day.
One of my biggest challenges this year is having to go back and reteach/reinforce their addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication facts to them so we do not struggle so much with newer content. Due to this, I believe that Math Sharks will help my classes!
Any student can learn the content, and more engaging technology and tools can help any student move from failing to passing. We all know that we cannot get much of anywhere when dealing with bored students. They tune us out and very little actual learning takes place. That's why my team teacher and fourth grade level as a whole are always looking for something to make them more engaged in their learning. Well a "Math Shark" can help with this issue because they will be learning and having fun while doing it!
We are a STEAM school and as such place a heavy emphasis on the sciences and mathematics.
My students get so excited doing any type of hands on activities in which they can use tools to help them solve their problems or find their answers. I believe that these "Math Sharks" can help my students in math gain more independence during their lessons, while making it fun and interesting for them!
