First grade students are just 6 and 7 year old kids. They need me to tie their shoes, suggest they blow their noses, tell them to use the bathroom, ask if they need hugs and allow them time to move.
My students are active first graders.
They love to wiggle, move and dance. They need to do these things to be active learners and participants in the classroom. We have movements breaks, we have dance parties and we use actions in almost everything we do. They are your typical 6 year old boys and girls who just love to move.
My Project
I want to be able to provide my students the tools they need to be active participants in my classroom. These seating options will provide my students with core strength support. Core strength is a necessity in being a learner in a first grade classroom. Students who are not able to play, whether they are stuck inside due to housing restraints or stuck in front of the TV, will often lack core strength. Those students who do not have strong core muscles will often have fine and gross motor difficulties and are unable to concentrate for extended periods of time. While being at school for 7-8 hours, there are many fine and gross motor demands required of all students More and more students are coming to us with these concerns. By knowing this, we are able to provide our students with seating options that can support their core muscles in order to improve their concentration and fine and gross motor skills. Wobble chairs and bouncy bands will help to improve my students concentration and fine and gross motor skills.
By donating to this project, students will be given the tools necessary to be the best learners they can be.
I want to provide my students with seating options that support their core strength and allow them to focus on learning, not on wiggling and moving. It will allow them to gain the skills and strength needed to be learners for the rest of their educational careers.
