My Project

I teach in a school that is culturally and linguistically diverse. My 2nd graders are kind and inquisitive little human beings who thrive on opportunities to move and express their creativity, emotions, and energy. We are often singing, dancing, and making art as well as working on the core subjects of reading/language arts and math. There is a lot of joy in my classroom!

Chocolate is more than a treat—it’s an entry point to engaging lessons in reading, writing, math, science, and teamwork.

Through a chocolate-themed unit, my students will discover where chocolate comes from and how it is made, read stories, watch informative videos, and engage in hands-on STEM challenges.

To bring this to life, I’m requesting:

Books: The Chocolate Touch; The Sweet Story of Chocolate; On the Corner of Chocolate Avenue; and No Monkeys, No Chocolate, are some of the titles that will captivate my students, deepen comprehension and background knowledge, and promote active discussion.

Sensory Exploration: We’ll conduct a chocolate taste test (milk, dark, and white varieties) to graph preferences and connect with math lessons on data and fractions.

Teachers Pay Teachers Gift Card: This will help me purchase additional resources such as Readers Theater scripts, STEM activity guides, and nonfiction articles to enrich this interdisciplinary unit.

By blending literature, math, social studies, and science into an accessible and delicious topic, I hope this unit will foster collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
