I teach Science and social studies at a public school (Loranger Middle)located in Tangipahoa Parish. I teach a group of special education/resource students, in which many of these students families have financial difficulties. The educational value of going on a Swamp Tour is priceless. The tour would definitely offer a wealth of scientific data such as: the effect of civilization has on wildlife, endangered species, amphibian study; the benefits gained from wetland preservation; etc. Also looking at the tour as a lesson in social studies you find the multiple examples of symbols of our state: state tree, amphibian, bird, flower, crustacean, etc! This fits in well with our social studies Louisiana unit. This trip to "Cajun Pride Swamp Tours" located in LaPlace, Louisiana would accommodate approximately 25 students (Science & Social studies classes combined). The students will have questions to answer and participate in discussions as a follow-up from the trip. The trip will serve as an experience they could later build on in other classes.
