My Project

Our school is proud of its environmental record. Our school has the distinction of being the only SEED (Sustainability, Efficiency, and Environmental Dedication) certified - gold level school in our district. We achieved this distinction during the pandemic by completing a number of action items related to energy and water conservation, gardening, recycling and environmental education. Since returning to our building, our two Green Teams (GT1 grades 3-5 and GT1 Grades K-2) meet weekly to plan and reflect on our environmental practices. Our students engage in activities such as performing recycling inspections, monitoring classroom energy use, making public service sustainability announcements. Most importantly, our students recognize that climate change is real and they never pass up an opportunity to advocate for the environment.

Our most ambitious project to date, is our Earth Day in May Museum.

Everyone in our family is expected to repurpose items that would normally end up in a landfill and convert it into something useful or visually appealing. These exhibits will be displayed in our Earth Day in May Museum. The sustainability themed books and games will be used as prizes for our students. They can have fun while learning more about environmental issues. We recognize that though we are an elementary school, we can be role models in the battle against climate change. We can win this fight if everyone makes a commitment to make small changes in their lives.
