Our students are diagnosed with Autism and in need of supplies to learn functional life skills that help them to become more independent in their everyday lives. These supplies are for our students who have severe and profound developmental disabilities and who are diagnosed with Autism. Our students with Autism in particular, need to become proficient in topics related to cleaning, clerical tasks, landscaping and gardening, property maintenance, food preparation and self-care skills. Many of our students are non-verbal and come here to learn formal methods of communication through sign language, picture symbols and voice output devices. Our students range in age from 14 – 21.
My Project
These materials will help students and families become more responsible for the health of their community and our planet. Students and their families will work from home on recycling, composting and gardening. Students will use the materials to sort recycling materials, compost for their gardens and help maintain their own gardens.
Students will work remotely with their teacher to learn about how the choices we make affect us locally and globally.
Our students will create daily tasks that they must complete independently to demonstrate their understanding of the project and their completion.
