Our students struggle daily with the hardships that every child faces; yet, their struggles are compounded by low income and the fact that many lack academic skills needed to move beyond their struggles into believing they, too, can dream the American dream. Science, technology, math, engineering, and art is a struggle to incorportae into many schools that strive to educate low income students. We count on people like you who have the funds to donate.
Our school is located in north central Arizona providing education for predominantly economically disadvantaged families with many special education students mainstreamed.
Eighty-five percent of our students are on free lunch program.
My Project
This lab will allow my students to study how organisms move, to investigate their form and function, and to compare larger organisms to smaller orgamisms in terms of enviromental importance. After this lab is over, I want to continue to capture their curiosity by announcing another hands-on learning for states of matter..this time incorporating math as well!
Scientific learning has to move beyond the words on a page into a world beyond the naked eye: microorgnaisms under a shared microscope lens and hands-on mathimatical and scientific approach to states of matter!
Please help me to capture the innate curiosity of my students before the repetition of science book chapters beat the curiosity right out of them. Today, it is read chapters 1, 2, 3...fill in the black, memorize the voacbulary, and get ready for the test. Tomorrow, it could be you are a scientist who will investigate and study live microorganism movement, investigate their form and function by prepping your own slides, creating a scientific notebook, using scientific vocabulary as you progress through this real-life lab! Tomorrow, we learn math in order to apply it, which is what we will do today with a states of matter kit!
