My Students

Every morning we start by sharing the best thing we read the day before. My students want to read, they want to learn, but they are in need of books that will grab them and take them away!

I teach a lively bunch of 6th graders who are just entering middle school.

They come in very nervous, but ready to learn. I have a few precious moments to motivate them to grab a book and go. I am still relatively new to teaching, and have not developed a collection of books that are high interest to my students. My students love to share and discover things about the world as they are trying to figure out who they are as individuals. We have a large class, so it is difficult for each student to have their very own book for individual reading.

My Project

Imagine a classroom filled with books that are eye catching to the students! Imagine books that coordinate with the themes in our reading class and also their science and social studies classrooms! With these books, student motivation for reading will increase! We will have common books that we can share and discuss as a class. Students will be able to recommend books to their friends! We also will be working on a research project and these books will come in handy for getting the students geared up! The books I have chosen here match with the themes we will be using in our language arts classroom. Many of these books were recommended by the creators of our program (Scholastic). We will explore different questions :Stories of Survival- Who will survive? Animal Watch- How do humans and animals change each other? History: Lost and Found- How do we find out what really happened? On a Mission- What is our responsibility to others?

My goal is to inspire students to develop a love for reading and learning.

I want to show them and guide them to discover what books can do if you give them a chance! What will students learn? I believe they will learn to let themselves go and dive into a book. With this start to my class book collection, they can explore subjects they love in a whole new way! They will learn that they can discover a whole new world when they read. With your donation, we can put a book in every child's hand!
