My Students

My school is located in an urban setting and has a very diverse population. As a result, my classes are comprised of students from around the world. They all bring something unique and special to the classroom because they speak many different languages, practice various religions, and represent numerous cultures. They also come to class with a wide range of skill sets. This type of diversity creates a current of electricity in the classroom that serves as a conduit for creativity and productivity. I hope that increasing their exposure to literature will help focus their energy, broaden their perspectives, and strengthen their skills.

My Project

My school introduced a new elective entitled Survey of Literature. The course contains no curriculum or books. It is my hope that the texts that I selected could be used to get this course off of the ground, so I can begin enriching my students lives with exposure to various types of literature from around the world. Best Short Stories of the Modern Age by Douglas Angus will allow my students to begin their literary journey by reading some of the more renowned short stories in western culture. They will then cross the high seas to delve into Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes by Edith Hamilton.
