Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a second grade teacher at a public school in the Bronx, New York. My school is dear to me because it is my Alma mater and it warms my heart to see children that reminds me of myself. This upcoming school year I will be teaching second grade students with autism (I previously taught kindergarten). The ASD Horizon program is tailored to providing specialized academic and social-emotional learning for all students . I am excited to work with my students in September.

My Project

My students are extraordinary learners. Each child has a unique learning style. As a teacher, it is important to accommodate each student based on their individual needs. Providing students with materials that they need will be conducive to their learning. It is my number one priority to make sure each child needs are met and they can demonstrate their skills to their best potential. Sensory and visual materials will benefit my students because they are hands on and visual learners.

The materials my students need are theraputty, flexible seating and dry erase easel.

Theraputty will help strengthen their dexterity, spatial awareness and social emotional regulation. Flexible seating is another classroom essential. Flexible seating is a great way of establishing autonomy with students. It allows them to take control of their learning environment by giving them a choice to choose preferable seating. My students have sensory deficits and sitting on a chair may not be the best for them. The flexible spots will provide my students with the comfort they need to be successful in the classroom. Lastly, the dry erase easel is significant for my students. My students enjoy writing on boards. The easel I am requesting is two sided and has a magnetic board, tubs, and can hold big books. It is a great classroom tool and it can be utilize in many different ways.
