This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have come into high school behind grade level but these students are not quitters. We have a strong culture of achievement and encourage all students to prepare for and apply to college.

Were you to walk down the halls of my school, you might think you are in the United Nations.

We have students from five continents (and more than that from a number of islands) representing a diverse array of languages and cultures. My students are a mix of new immigrants and native born Americans. All of them want to succeed.

My Project

I am requesting a Microsoft Surface Go. With the Surface Go, I will be putting the most adaptive device for teaching and learning into the hands of my students as they move between analog and digital worlds. The Surface Go is a fully powered computer with the form factor of a tablet. This makes it versatile and ultra portable.

Periodically we need to refresh classroom technology.

My school has a laptop cart with old generation Chromebooks. There is constant competition among teachers to get access to the cart. But most of the time, I only need a tablet for a student, or a small group of students, to work with.

That is where the Surface Go and peripherals come in. Surface can address the variety of learning styles in my classroom. The MS Surface Go will be used for students to break free from the class in small groups for individualized explorations. The peripherals I am requesting include a pen, a docking station, and a cover.

In general, I would like students to think of my classroom as an environment for exploration. I try to have a variety of objects and tools available for them to explore, even if the objects aren't directly related to a given day's lesson. So many of my students just don't have enough chance to explore the world.
