My Students

I teach 6th grade Math and Science. My students are fun, outgoing and eager to learn. In my classes I have 120 students that range from English As A Second Language to Highly Gifted. Shiny new technology inspires them and opens their minds to learning like no other tool in my repertoire.

I am in my 18th year teaching math and science in middle school.

I have taught 6-8th grade but presently I am teaching sixth grade math and science. I have worked is four different school districts, ranging from inner city to multiple cultures of Hawthorne to working class valley. I have worked with all level students ranging from below grade level to highly gifted. I have worked at the present school for eight years. I am teaching a gifted class right now as well as a class with special needs students. So it is quite a range. My science program will have video and pictures to reinforce concepts hard to understand such as plate tectonics and atmospheric pressure. I want to learn to move my classroom into the digital age. The surface pro will allow me to do this by interfacing with programs like one note and one note classroom. The keyboard and wireless display will complete the surface pro I just received to interact with all devices.

My Project

I recently received a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (64 GB, Intel Core i3). I am asking for the keyboard and wireless display to complete the technology to allow me to explore. Our district recently purchased Office 365. I have read many great things about using Office 365, especially OneNote, as a way for students to interact with each other and the teacher as they work on assignments and projects. This is something that is completely new to me. I would like to learn how to use OneNote Class Notebook to allow students to collaborate better, to turn in their work digitally, and to allow me to give immediate and meaningful feedback. In addition to using OneNote, I could also expand the use of other Office 365 products in my class giving me and my students more experience on applications that will be used in the workplace for years to come.

The keyboard and wireless display that go with the surface pro will help protect my technology as well as connect several different devices within the classroom.

This project will move me to a more technology based classroom. I will be able to access student's progress then alter my lesson as needed. This will allow me to become a more technologically advanced teacher. Technology is the future, please help my students prepare for their future!
