Autism Spectrum Disorder encompasses a wide variety of abilities and challenges for my students. Working with these students and using their abilities to overcome their challenges extremely rewarding. The items included in this project are tools for providing optimal learning environments for these amazing little people. The sensory tents will be the perfect addition to rooms with students who are easily overstimulated and benefit from brain breaks. Writing with stylus' on ipads and using gel pens are a great way to engage students who otherwise avoid handwriting, and pencil grips and twist and write pencils help tiny hands learn how to hold pencils correctly. Chair bands support students who are impulsive and fidgety by giving them an opportunity to get the movement they need in to pay attention in class.
Supporting all of my student's ability to reach their highest potential is what drives me to continually seek out new and creative ways to promote the underlying skills they need to be successful!
As an occupational therapist that delivers services to a caseload of students with varying needs and abilities this means having a very large toolkit of activities and items to engage them. It also means providing items to classroom teachers that support our students ability to participate optimally in their classrooms.
