Students' social and emotional learning is at the forefront of my job as a school counselor. Our students problem solve and persevere each and every day, and the tremendous support from DonorsChoose has given us hope and encouragement through the challenges presented due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
My DonorsChoose project focuses on providing support to our students while working in individual and small group counseling sessions and also while doing academic tasks in the classroom.
First of all, I have been in awe of the few standing desks in our special education classrooms for a couple of years now. We have students who would benefit from standing desks in their regular education classrooms, but due to the price of these desks, I hesitated ordering them, until today. I am hopeful that these standing desks will provide a new accommodation for students who learn best while standing and moving.
DonorsChoose has given me the opportunity to build my counseling library and to replenish my supplies. My list contains books about anxiety, perseverance, impulse control, social skills, personal space, and behavioral interventions. My students love books which we find so beneficial. The chewies will help my students who have sensory needs. They provide a safe way for students to obtain sensory stimulation to reduce their anxiety. My students also find painting therapeutic and watercolor paper makes painting so fun for them.
The supplies included in my project will support our students who continue to navigate through these challenging times. We are all so grateful for the generosity that surrounds us each day. Thank you!
