My Project

Not only do I want to be a good teacher to my students, I also want to serve as a resource for the newly-hired teachers in my department. A new teacher's learning curve is so steep; it stretches them in all different ways and can feel overwhelming with little time to do other things. I remember! By providing them a listening ear, lesson plans that have worked, and materials they need, I feel I am supporting them in their professional journey.

I want to support my colleagues and their students in two ways.

The first is to provide them with basic art materials that would, in turn, provide them the means to plan engaging lesson plans that promote creative self-expression: large paper to draw head silhouettes, time lines, collages, as well as colorful felt and construction paper for creating language-based projects.

The second way I'd like to support my colleagues is to purchase a classroom set of audio headsets that we all can use by rotating them with our English Learner students to plan listening and speaking activities. It's an expensive purchase so I've spend time consulting with our IT department to get its recommendation. Once these headsets arrive, we'll be able to freely lesson plan, knowing that all of our students will have the wherewithal to listen and record their voices.
