My Students

I have 17 pre-K students in my class. My students come from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and abilities, many being English language learners. Many of these students need hands-on materials and visuals to understand and learn better. My students come in every morning eager to learn new things. They are all so unique and individual in their own way, each contributing something special to our class.

Our pre-K class is a special place where little things hands-on a lot.

We are not just a class but a family. My students do not just learn academically but socially, too. It may be difficult for four year olds to learn proper social skills but not in this classroom. These children have all learned how to be good friends, how to care for others, how to show respect, how to communicate feelings the right way, and most importantly how to be kind. My goal is to provide all students with multiple opportunities for hands-on experiences and student-inquiry based lessons to help them achieve academic success and build a foundation for all future learning.

My Project

We often hear the phrase, "Children are natural scientists" because their curiosity and need to make the world a more predictable place drives them to explore and draw conclusions based on their experiences. However, the students in my class, although very curious, need that extra guidance and structure to turn their natural curiosity and activity into something more scientific. Many of my students are English language learners and need the opportunity to engage in rich scientific inquiry with engaging and motivating materials.

Scientific inquiry provides children the opportunity to engage in many tasks and skills including making observations, engaging in focused exploration, using scientific tools, drawing conclusions, and sharing ideas.

It is with these materials requested that my students will be able to investigate and explore the natural world around them. The Design and Build Engineering Centers could help my students become their own architects and builders in our buildings unit. The insect specimen center, real bugs discovery kit, life cycles sequencing kit, life cycles instant learning center and my first microscope can help my students investigate and explore with a hands-on experience during our life cycles unit. The what's the sound mystery capsules, motion discovery tubes and sink or float STEM station are all supportive activities for my students to engage in during our five senses unit. They can play games such as guess that sound and explore how objects sink or float.

My children are very hands-on learners and learn best when doing. These materials would give all my students a chance to engage in more interactive learning and scientific inquiry. I would love the opportunity to provide an environment that fosters scientific thinking with the right materials to exercise their curiosity and further open the pathway to learning for these young scientists.
