My Students

My classes consist of passionate 8th-grade special education students who are eager to learn math! Some come from single-parent homes or homes in which parents work more than one job. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day.

My Project

I'm requesting an iPad that will enable me to teach math skills virtually. This technology will allow me to connect with my students and communicate with them as effectively as if I were standing in front of my classroom. The iPad will allow me to transmit lessons digitally and automatically, helping to foster a virtual learning environment in which they can thrive. I teach Regents-level courses to the special needs community, classes that are daunting to some even in the best of times, and now, more than ever, I need the tools to be able to foster learning and growth so these students can realize their dreams. Having an iPad allows for smoother communication and transmission of materials between teachers and students. Instead of trading stacks of papers with one another and taking the necessary time and resources for this process, we can exchange files digitally.
