Supporting My Students' Social and Emotional Well-Being
I need help providing my students with social emotional learning strategies. I will teach them the strategies I learn from Mindfulness, SEL, and Yoga Teacher Training.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This professional development will benefit my students, myself, and educators. The five month training will give me the tools and provide me with the resources to begin this school year in helping our student's social-emotional learning needs, my mental wellness, and the wellness of other educators.
A 2024 study by Learn Platform has shown participants experienced less stress and less burnout resulting in a positive impact of their student's learning environment.
This training has improved the mental and physical health of educators leading to a positive impact on student behaviors. Yoga chair activities will be incorporated to help my students with their self-esteem, their attention, and their self-confidence. With the yoga certification, I will be certified to teach other educators as well as staff essential techniques to help with their wellness and mindfulness.
Ilana Nankin, Ph.D., states, "professionals receiving mindfulness interventions also experience less emotional exhaustion and increased job satisfaction. Studies similarly demonstrate the connection between teacher well-being and student learning."
I will integrate research based social-emotional learning practices in my daily instruction. As educators we need to educate the whole child. The whole child encompasses their emotional being, their social being, their physical self, and their academic self.
