My Students

Math is all around us in the world. In order to be a successful scientist, mathematician, technician or engineer, you need to be able to count, understand numbers and how they work. I work at a very diverse STEM school in Seattle. My students come from a variety of different learning backgrounds with lots of different expertise. It is my job to help prepare them for the rest of their educational career.

It is so important to me to help my students build a strong foundation in math.

I want them to love math just as much as they love science experiments and engineering challenges. They already are full of life and imagination and I want to be able to help guide them to build and explore their skills further to become life long scholars.

My Project

My students really enjoy learning when a game is involved. Each time I introduce a new mathematical practice in our classroom, I like to partner the learning with hands-on experiences such as using materials that can be manipulated and through the use of games. The games allow students to practice their skills in a way that is fun and engaging. They can also practice skills we have previously done but are still working on, even if we have moved on to a new math practice. By having these materials available, my students will be able to have more opportunities to practice their math skills and prepare themselves for first grade math and also for being life long mathematicians.
