My Project

My students this year are experiencing school for the first time, as well as how it used to be before COVID, meaning no masks, social distancing, or remote learning. I chose items that cover a wide range of academic and social-emotional experiences to enrich my students this year, and for years to come!

Many of them enjoy sensory experiences, while for some, loud noises or other sensory experiences are overwhelming.

The noise cancelling headphones are a great tool. I also have students who require much more gross motor exercises than others, so I chose items that can be used in the classroom in case those students needed a movement break, such as the Stepping Stones obstacle course or the scooters.

I thought about some of my other students who enjoy taking quiet breaks by spending alone time in our Cozy Corner, where I plan to place a canopy to offer some extra privacy, as well as the calming sensory fidget tools. I would like to cater to all of my students' needs while also being sensitive to their social-emotional development in a Reggio-inspired environment. An overhead projector is often found in Reggio classrooms as a student-led tool which leads to questioning and experimentation. The kaleidoscopes, view master, and resin insects are also great additions to our science area to encourage critical thinking.
