Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

All of our students are immigrants. Our school has students from over 25 countries and they speak over 30 languages. What ties all of the diversity together is the reason that families chose to move to America - to fulfill their dreams and give a better life to their children. Our students are ambitious, and they know they have to work double time to get ready for whatever is coming next. They have to learn English at the same time that they are learning math, science, and history that is new to them.

Teachers and support staff at our school go above and beyond to make sure every student has what they need.

For some students it's extra snacks, for some it's a chance to play on the soccer or volleyball team, for some it's an extra sweater, and for some, it's having an adult who knows you and can give you good advice. Our school cares about each individual student and every student here can find an adult who cares about them.

My Project

To foster motivation and community, we host four varsity-level sports at our school; soccer, volleyball, baseball, and softball. Sports are vital in cultivating the culture of our school and our determined scholar-athletes. Both our girls and boys soccer and our volleyball teams made it to the state tournament this year and our boys' soccer team played in the state finals last year! We believe that through athletics, our students can reach academic achievements by gaining transferable lifelong skills.

In order to make varsity athletics accessible for students of all socioeconomic backgrounds, we need to supply the basic tools.

Our softball team needs some new gloves to break in and practice with before the season begins. The Rawlings Youth Fastpitch gloves will do just that. Our soccer teams need some equipment so they can practice by themselves while coaches focus on position work. The SKLZ Star Kick Solo Trainer will allow coaches to give individualized time in different positions. Teachers and staff truly value the qualities they see students display on the field. We continuously make efforts to support the talent that students have been able to develop on the field and we see the effect in increased motivation and pride in the classroom.
