My Project

One of my classes is a student organization called Student Equity Leaders. This year they are organizing projects around mental health, school-wide. Our students have identified representation/seeing themselves represented in the curriculum and in the school building as a big driver in teen mental health while learning in school. They pulled from the idea of "if you can see it, you can be it." They are planning to do school-wide sticker and prize giveaways in the mornings to celebrate significant calendar months- i.e. Mental Health Awareness Month, Women's History Month, Diwali, Black History Month, etcetera. Students are also setting up a center for students who may be having a hard day. They have also selected giveaways that focus on sensory needs such as fidget toys, squishy mochi animals, calm strips, and more - as a source of comfort if students need it on any given day.

We are inspired by the initiatives our students have dreamed up to support mental health in our school and hope we will be able to provide the materials they have selected.
