Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most of our students come from low-income households and do not have access to life essentials such as hygiene products and food. Because America's racial and ethnic minorities are the fastest-growing sectors in the country and they make up a disproportionately large segment of the economically poor population, tending to their educational needs is in everyone's interest. The level of their educational achievements will dramatically affect the future of our nation.

Our students are so resilient and bright, but sometimes they aren't able to focus in class because they experience tremendous amounts of trauma and stress.

I work at the Wellness Center, and I am a Community Health Outreach Worker. I often see students struggle with stress, illness, and depression due to things happening in their homes and in their communities. I am committed to providing a safe, clean, and comfortable space for all students.

My experience with DonorsChoose.org and sponsors has been very positive and I hope to continue using this site as a bridge between my students and those out there who would like to be part of this amazing opportunity that takes place every day in our school.

My Project

These items will be used in therapeutic settings in the Wellness Center and during our 2nd Annual "Stress-Less Fest" which will be held during finals week. Finals and the days leading up to our long winter break can be extremely stressful for our students. They often time feel overwhelmed, worried, anxious, and nervous. Having a snack, putting on lotion, and practicing belly breaths can help students ground themselves and self-soothe in a holistic way.

Our students have overcome so many barriers and obstacles to get to where they are today; when they come to school, we want them to feel calm, relaxed, supported, and ready to learn.
