My Project

Social-emotional learning is a key component to our school community in developing lifelong learners and leaders who use these soft skills in their every day life both inside and outside the classroom. In my school, every student engages in an advisory class which focuses around restorative justice practices. Restorative circles include a talking piece, which could be something like the rainbow balls. Students build their social and self awareness, self management, decision making, optimistic thinking, and relationship building. Since many students are learning English, Uno and dice are universal games that allow relationship building to occur from the beginning!

We aim to empower growth for our students and discover their individual strengths through activities, reflections, and action steps for making their communities a better place.

Students use journals to reflect on our advisory lesson topic and keep them throughout the year as a way to see how they have grown in their social-emotional skills. As a way to express individuality, students can decorate their notebooks with fun stickers! As students build their self awareness, there are times students need a quiet space to reflect or take a moment to pause. The headphones and folder dividers will provide students the space to calm themselves down or journal their reflections.

My students have grown so much in their social-emotional learning, these materials will help enhance their independence and leadership to become positive impacts on their community!
