This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My kindergarten students with autism are bright, curious, and eager to learn, but they need specialized sensory supports to help them stay engaged and comfortable in the classroom. Many of my students struggle with sensory regulation, focus, and self-soothing, which can make it difficult for them to participate in learning activities. By providing sensory tools like a swivel chair, balance board, and weighted lap pad, I can help them manage their energy and emotions in a way that supports their success.

These sensory tools will have a direct and meaningful impact on my students' daily learning.

The swivel chair and balance board will allow them to move while staying engaged, improving focus and body awareness. The weighted lap pad and chewy necklaces will provide deep pressure input to help with self-regulation and reduce anxiety. Kinetic sand, fidget seating, and earmuffs will create calming opportunities for students who need a break from overwhelming classroom stimuli. These tools will be incorporated into structured activities, sensory breaks, and transitions to help students feel comfortable and ready to learn.

My goal is to create a structured, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where my students can build independence, increase their attention, and develop essential skills without sensory challenges holding them back.
