Last year, I coached the first school soccer team at our middle school. We have a talented community of young soccer players that love the sport and are excited for our next season. These kids have a passion for the sport and so much skill from watching their favorite teams and playing pickup with their friends. Most of my student athletes have never played on a team. The purpose of this project is to gather the necessary training equipment to help strengthen and finesse fundamental skills as my team works to grow in another season. In addition to soccer, our school offers football, volleyball, basketball, flag football, and baseball and is working on developing track and field and softball. Our coaches have been working together to get students involved in sports, promoting an appreciation for the sport each student enjoys, community involvement, and supporting our students towards being their best selves.
In the words of Gordon Bombay, "A team isn’t a bunch of kids out to win.
A team is something you belong to, something you feel, something you have to earn." While it may seem that training equipment isn't significant, it does help our student-athletes feel like they are part of something real and serious while also building skills. Our school has limited funding and a need for more equipment to provide our students an opportunity to train properly. Donations for our sports programs will help each of our current and developing sports teams grow while also providing safety equipment we and our student families can't afford.
