Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This upcoming school year, I will be participating in the Internationals Network which aims to support the academic, social and emotional success of multilingual learners. As students new to this country, my classroom should be a safe and caring space where students can not only thrive and practice academic skills (such as speaking, listening, reading and writing), but where students can be at ease knowing they are in an environment that supports their growth and development.

These products are all part of the plan to better support multilingual learners as they start a new journey in a new country, learning a new language.

Some of these items will support their daily learning, while others are meant to establish a comfortable space within the 4 walls of my classroom. I am especially excited to bring the moving white board/presentation board to our classroom as we are a presentation based school and this will allow students to practice their presentation skills on a daily basis. I hope to use the moving white board a long with the accessory items during small group instruction or when students are practicing presentation skills. I hope this will ensure a student centered experience where they are at the forefront of their own learning!

I have also included several ESL books that will support conversations and build community in the first few weeks of school. I am excited to use these resources as daily warm ups that will ensure students are using their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills on a daily basis. I’ve also Included a classroom mail organizer that I plan to use to keep student work organized so that students can keep previously submitted work (with feedback) in their portfolios. Lastly, I plan to purchase items that are essential for classroom decor.
