My Project

The basic supplies I'm requesting - pens, legal pads, staples, and snacks - may seem simple, but they are essential tools that will empower my speech, debate, and mock trial students to develop crucial skills for academic and professional success. Many of my students come from families where purchasing these supplies creates financial strain, yet these items are fundamental to their participation and growth.

Legal pads and pens are the backbone of competitive speech and debate.

Students use them to outline arguments, take detailed notes during research, and draft persuasive speeches. During tournaments, these materials allow them to track opponents' arguments and craft effective rebuttals in real-time. The staples ensure their carefully prepared cases and evidence packets stay organized during intense competitions.

The snacks are equally vital, as our students often spend long hours at tournaments and after-school practices. Having healthy fuel available helps them maintain focus and energy through multiple rounds of competition, especially since many skip meals due to financial constraints or busy schedules.

My goals for this project are to remove barriers to participation and help students focus on developing their advocacy skills rather than worrying about basic supplies. When properly equipped, these young advocates can concentrate on honing their critical thinking, public speaking, and argumentation abilities - skills that will serve them well in college and beyond.
