My Project

By supporting students' mental health, we are supporting the academic success of students. Students often enter my class hungry, stressed, tired or needing a positive mental health pick-me-up. I've seen kids recommit to a lesson with renewed energy after they've had a snack or a quick brain break. As a teacher at an all-girls / gender expansive public middle and high school, supporting their social, emotional well-being is imperative to having a productive day where they can learn under the best conditions.

It is very challenging to focus when you're hungry or restless.

Your donations to snacks, art supplies and fidget toys will support the mental health of my students if they're feeling fatigued, down, unfocused or just needing a quiet space to process and think through their thoughts. Having items available to them will increase student attention and help foster a stronger community which will lend itself to a positive and welcoming school culture.

I believe that by helping one classroom you're helping several, as students travel across teachers and floors in a day. How they behave in one class may be very different in another and I am hopeful that by providing mental health resources, students can engage and be more present, ultimately carrying their positive mental health attitude with them throughout the day.
