My Students

I teach a diverse group of students with special needs in Los Angeles, CA. Our school is committed to social-emotional development, academic rigor, and teaching with multiple intelligences in mind.

I work with students who are struggling academically in their general education classroom and who need additional support and time to learn key foundational reading skills.

Seeing a struggling student read their first words is an experience like no other. With the right support, they will all become lifelong readers and writers.

My Project

Orton Gillingham is a teaching program designed for students with dyslexia. It has been around for many decades and research has shown that it helps students with with dyslexia learn to read. This Orton Gillingham course will teach me the exact sequence to teach various letter sounds. It will also help me create a clear routine and provide me with materials that will support students with dyslexia in learning to read.

Students with dyslexia need different types of exposure to and practice with letters and letter sounds than other students.

This training will teach and equip me with the tools, knowledge, and strategies to support ALL students in learning to read at our school.
