Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In addition to being a brilliant group of kids, my students are bursting with creativity. Help us find ways to harness today’s technology in ways that would allow all of my students to conduct research and express what they have learned in their own unique way!

Working at an inner city Title I school, a great number of my students are economically disadvantaged.

Most qualify for and receive free lunch. However, in our classroom this is not what defines them. My students are all unique and brilliant, every one in their own way. Each has their own distinctive way of understanding and expressing what they learn. Our class is filled with amazing artists, fantastic writers, talented mathematicians, brilliant scientists and wonderful storytellers. As a teacher, I want to provide as many opportunities for my students to utilize today’s technology as a tool to assist them in their learning.

My Project

Technology moves at the speed of light. I want my students to be able to keep up. Today’s iPods can perform many of the same functions and include many of the same features of an iPad 2. With these two iPods, my students will be able to do research on the Internet. Paired with our new printer, they will be able to print photos, web pages, and documents, directly from each iPod! When learning about America’s history, students will use our iPods to view videos of historical reenactments or access interactive historical maps. In science, my students will use our iPods to view videos and websites that bring to life all of the scientific concepts that may be too abstract to understand by simply reading about them in a book. Finally, my students will use the camera and video camera on each iPod to create their own photo/video essay. Through their photo/video essays, students can create a song, poem, piece of artwork, or speech to share what they have learned.

My students have very limited access to technology in their homes.

With harsh budget cuts in our district, money to support integrating technology in our school is either dwindling away quickly or is completely nonexistent. Your donation will help my students be able to access an unlimited amount of information from the Internet as well as give them a way to share what they have learned in their own unique way! My students are stars. Help me make them shine as brightly as possible.
