The students in my class are 95% low-income, 90% English language learners, and 100% eager to learn.
They enjoy hands-on, active learning and work that allows them to make choices and develop self efficacy.
Like all first graders, they love books, and this is a critical age for harnessing that love to create fluent readers. The potential is endless!
My Project
After a mid-life career change, I've started my first year as a dual language elementary teacher.
Please help me transform my 1st grade classroom from a blank slate into a joyful, engaging, bilingual learning space for my students.
I hope to fill my classroom with literacy and math materials that go beyond the curriculum to make learning fun and active!
For literacy learning, I'd like to provide my students with an interactive literacy center and a culturally relevant, bilingual classroom library. The more they see themselves in what they read, the more they'll read! For math learning, I hope to create a math center full of fun activities and manipulatives that will help to individualize math instruction and support student in developing more complex number sense.
