My Students

Our school is set in a suburban community, in a large metropolitan city. Even though it is in a large area, it feels like a small community, and sheltered from the bigger city.

We have a large population of students with deployed parents, as military housing sits adjacent to our school and in the surrounding area.

The students at our school come from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities, and many students choose to come to our school from other neighborhoods.

Our school offers a challenging but rewarding program, with excellent, student-centered teachers. Our science lab serves all the children in our school, from TK through 5th grade, where students participate in hands-on science and engineering enrichment activities that help to prepare or encourage them to take on a science mindset and develop critical thinking skills.

My Project

We have been working to build our Engineering Emporium and stocking it full of both recyclables and repeated use supplies. Along the way, we have discovered that we also need to replenish, refresh, and re-supply some of our basic tools.

We need a collection of basic classroom items to help our Science and STEM lab be more functional and organized.

We need bins and storage containers for our "Engineering Emporium" supplies (our engineering stash of supplies and recycled materials); sets of better scissors, especially for my 3rd-5th graders; tape dispensers to make it easier to build more quickly; dry erase markers for planning on our white boards; and clipboards for working on the go and that don't snap fingers.

Help us work through the design cycle to engineer a better and more accessible work flow in our Makerspace.
