My Project

Because I work at a Title I school, many of my students come from low income families, so just showing up for class can sometimes be a struggle. A lot of times, showing up is the only thing some of my students can do. School supplies are out of the question because bills need to be paid first. Having necessary supplies on hand to give to students in need helps take a burden off of them and their families.

Not having supplies can be embarrassing for high school students; asking for supplies can be even more embarrassing.

I have a shelf in my classroom that is designated for free supplies for students. I try to keep pencils, paper, highlighters, pens, and binders on this shelf. My students know that anything on the shelf is up for grabs as long as they really need it. They also know they never have to ask before grabbing what they need.

The goal of this project is to help me restock my supply shelf with things I know we usually need, like pencils, markers and binder paper, so we can start the new year fresh and prepared!
