My Students

I teach an amazing group of students with special needs in an urban title one charter school in Baltimore City. They come to school every day excited and ready to learn! They want to learn so much about the world around them and what's beyond the walls of our classroom. However, the students that I work with bring a lot of baggage into our classroom and it is my job to help them leave that baggage at the door, be kids for a while and learn through fun and exciting ways.

My students disabilities range from Autism to Learning Disabilities and I find that the more hands on and interactive learning can be, the more beneficial it is to my students.

Due to their disabilities, I am constantly changing up my teaching practices and finding new and exciting ways to reach and challenge my students without having them become frustrated and give up.

My Project

My students learn from doing. They learn from hands-on, interactive experiences where they can become a part of what they are learning. In order to have multiple experiences that include these different modalities for my students, I am constantly creating new activities for my students to use and manipulate.

The supplies that I am requesting, will help me be able to create more hands-on, interactive activities for my students.

Laminating materials is integral to my work as an educator to make sure my students have durable manipulatives that will last. Velcro is a great way to create activities that my students can use over and over again to work on the same and different skills. We need new dry erase boards and markers to continue to be able to create and complete individualized work. We need storage containers to hold all of the materials that we're using on a daily basis. This will also help my students work on their independence.

All of these materials will help my students become stronger, more engaged students and community members.
