Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Try to learn something about everything and everything about something." -Thomas Huxley. My students love to learn. They are curious and always want to discover something new to learn.

These wonderful 2nd graders are part of an ICT classroom.

There are general and special education students together in the same class. They work together and help one another in their learning. They are in a school where most students come from low economic backgrounds in NYC. 95% of the student body receives free lunch. These students have a love for learning and I want to give them an opportunity to take charge of their education. They come to school everyday wanting to learn more. They love to read, write and ask lots of questions.

My Project

About 1/2 of the class reads below grade level. Through these material I can address the many needs of the students. Students can learn reading and math skills through centers. Many of the students, especially the special education students, thrive and remember concepts through hands on activities. The vocabulary center will help special education students, as well as the ELL students practice vocabulary and become familiar with words and their meaning. The math center will help all students reinforce and learn math concepts through discovery. The pocket charts will help students be engaged within the various centers. Also, the students don't have the opportunity to use computers at home. So many students enjoy to publish their writing on a computer. Without a printer, many students will not get to see their writing published. This printer will give the students a chance to be proud of their writing and feel like... an author!

This project will foster a love for learning that these students want.

This will allow the students to take charge of their learning. It will put a smile on their faces as a show of pride in the work that they produce. This will give students a drive to learn and write. They can become future authors of great books.
