My Students

A typical day in my classroom is extremely structured. My students have autism and require extreme structure to get them through the day. They each have an individual schedule which changes daily depending on activities. They all love school and love learning so much!

I teach first grade 6:1:1 class with students with autism.

I currently have 5 students and all have severe learning disabilities and behaviors. Three out of the five students have one to one paras because of their behaviors such as hitting, biting, and tendencies to run away. When fully engaged, they can all learn. We are located in Midtown east. Though we are in a beautiful new building, supplies are already scarce and the school year just started. We did not have enough money to purchase ink and paper and a lot of our students require colorful pictures to help them recognize and learn different things in the environment.

My Project

We are requesting ink cartridges and paper, hopefully enough to get through the school year. It will be used to print out assignments, work tasks, and symbols to help them recognize their environment around them. Pictures with colors are better for our students because it really helps them understand what things really look like in real life and help identify different objects.

This project will make such a difference to my students.

Not only will they have enough paper and ink to last them through a year of assignments but pictures of them working hard can be printed out to be sent home to parents. This will allow my students a sense of pride, that their the ones that achieve their goals. Simple supplies like these are so very much needed in my classroom right now.
