My Students

As a teacher in a Title 1 district, my students come from several diverse backgrounds. Living in a small town with with only one school district means that my student's socioeconomic backgrounds range from very low income to very high income. This makes it a little more challenging to meet everyone's needs.

I use positive reinforcement in my classroom in order to focus on the good things my students are doing.

Although some of my students may be extremely different from one another, they are able to show respect for each other when they enter our room.

I want school to be a place where every student feels safe and equally valued no matter what their life at home may be like.

I always tell my students that we are a family and we have to care for one another. When I see them forming new relationships with peers, doing the right thing in difficult situations, or even just helping a neighbor out on a difficult math problem, it makes me proud to be their teacher.

My Project

I am asking for various items that will be useful in a variety of subjects. Being a first year teacher, I am eager to try new learning methods with my students. However, the cost of supplies to carry out some of these activities can be overwhelming.

The supplies I am requesting will help my students engage in learning.

I am requesting 10 and 20 sided dice to use in a variety of math games and activities. I am requesting black lights and highlighters to carry out a "neon reading" activity that focuses on finding facts, text evidence, and important information in text. I am requesting headphones to use with the iPads I already have for my class. I am requesting binders, clipboards, and book organizers to help my students keep up with their belongings. I am requesting chart paper to create anchor charts that will be helpful to students in all subject areas. I am requesting a wireless doorbell to use as an "attention getter" when the class gets a little too loud. Finally, I am requesting a charging station to keep my class iPads organized and ready to use.
