My children love reading, math, and especially art. Kids love to create their own masterpieces and my kids, well they usually request a time for reading and creating. This is every kindergarten teacher's dream!
I have an amazing bunch of kids and I'm not just saying that because they are in my class.
My kids are very inquisitive and in kindergarten it is great to see that spark of wanting to learn more. Kindergarten is a tricky year because I don't know how many attended pre-k allowing them to be familiarized with a school setting. Despite their prior schooling, they all entered with feelings of both excitement and nerves. I made sure I welcomed them all with open arms, making them feel comfortable - let's face it teachers get butterflies around their new class as well. Kindergarten is a precious grade where they just need to explore. Exploration is key to building the foundation of our young critical thinkers.
My Project
As a kindergarten teacher, we do a lot and I mean A LOT of read alouds and share time on the rug. The easel will definitely help kids display work they would like to share, as well as, making the reading of big books easier. The kids love coming up to point out what they've noticed in the book and show their answer to the class. The easel will definitely help really showcase what they are capable of and help share strategies with friends.
The art supplies are needed because my kids love art. Unfortunately, my school does not provide an art program for kids in kindergarten. Any art activities done is completed in the classroom. Art is a common center to be requested during center time. They love making things out of paper, clay, paint, crayons, etc. Any form of art introduced to the class a light goes off that just sparks their inner creativity. I love seeing them create their masterpieces.
This project will help enhance their sense of exploration and allow them to shine in all areas!
The easel will truly impact the students learning abilities by allowing them to share their methods of thinking.
The art supplies will also help build community in the classroom and allow them to really shine in an area that isn't structured and allows them to be themselves. Nothing makes me happier than to watch my kids express themselves in different forms around the room!
