My Students

My school is located in Queens, N.Y., the most culturally and ethnically diverse neighborhood in the world. The athletes who participate on my team come from all over NYC. They possess tremendously different skill levels that range from players who are setting foot on the soccer field for the first time in their life to those who have played for years. Some players may have physical, learning, or emotional disabilities and some may also come from economically disadvantaged homes or reside in shelters.

Although these players may be tremendously different from one another, they build a beautiful chemistry as a team and are wonderfully supportive of one another.

It truly is magical to watch how they transform from individuals with such differing backgrounds to a cohesive and unified team. Our boys and girls soccer teams each consist of 25 players from diverse cultural backgrounds. They are eager to learn and motivated to push themselves to do their best. There is an atmosphere of acceptance and trust on the field that encourages these athletes to step out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves to set high goals that they can work toward together.

My Project

School budgets do not allow room for sports supplies and it is very difficult to train a soccer team without soccer balls, goalie gloves, pinnies, and mesh soccer ball bags. Having the proper equipment allows the team to have efficient training practices where they can build and strengthen their skills.

Proper training gives the team an advantage on the field as they prepare to go up against challenging opponents.

Having the materials they need builds confidence and helps team to build chemistry as they train together. Agility drills, fitness training, and skill building activities are all possible with this equipment.
