This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Art at a school in South Florida. The school is an elementary and middle school combined into one. I want to teach the 5th-8th grade students about photography and film. Previously, our student photographers took advantage of our beautiful school campus. The campus is nearly a century old. Students learned to take pictures of buildings, playgrounds and vegetation from unusual, interesting angles. We took a lot of black and white shots.

This year, we want to produce more color photographs and to experiment with film-making.

My Project

This calls for new supplies. In particular, we need flash drives to store photos, special paper to print photos on, color ink for our printer, and a camera that will take good quality videos. The move into video is our Principal's idea. She wants us to create short 'snippets' that can be shown to the whole school during morning announcements. Please help me offer the kids photography and film lessons! They open students' eyes to the beauty of the everyday objects around them. They encourage the kids to cooperate. The kids learn to offer constructive criticism of fellow artists' work. I have two kids who have made cartoons together using an App, who are especially interested in producing the video clips. It would be fantastic if we could offer the students photography and film classes this year. Please help us!
