My Project

In our classroom, we cater to special needs students in a 6:1:1 setting, there's an urgent need for new supplies and the creation of a calming sensory area. Many of our students struggle with social interaction, verbal, and nonverbal communication, and maintaining focused interests. Without sensory manipulatives and a dedicated space for relaxation and sensory regulation, it's challenging to provide the support our students require to thrive academically and emotionally. Despite our efforts, securing these essential resources is often difficult due to our status as a Title I school, where 40 percent of the student population comes from low-income families. However, with the assistance of generous donors, we're hopeful that we can create a nurturing environment that fosters the holistic development of our students.

The addition of new supplies and a sensory area restoration would significantly enhance our classroom environment and better meet the diverse needs of our students.

With the new supplies and sensory area, we envision a transformed classroom environment that caters to the diverse needs of our students. The sensory manipulatives will serve as invaluable tools for sensory exploration and regulation, allowing students to engage in hands-on activities that promote self-calming and focus. From textured objects to tactile materials, these resources will be integrated into daily lessons and activities to provide sensory input tailored to each student's preferences and sensitivities. Additionally, the creation of a calming sensory area will offer a designated space where students can retreat to when feeling overwhelmed or overstimulated, equipped with comfortable seating, soft lighting, and sensory tools like weighted blankets or fidget toys. By strategically incorporating these items into our classroom routines and interventions, we aim to create a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to navigate their challenges and thrive both academically and emotionally.
