This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When students' basic needs for warmth, care, and nourishment are not met, it can have a profound impact on their ability to focus, learn, and thrive in the classroom. Far too many children come to school each day lacking essentials like a warm coat in the winter, access to basic hygiene supplies, or enough food in their bellies. The gnawing pangs of hunger make it nearly impossible to concentrate on lessons. The embarrassment of wearing dirty, worn-out clothes erodes self-confidence. We as educators and schools must do everything in our power to wrap these students in warmth and care, providing food, toiletries, clothing and other basic necessities whenever we can. By surrounding students with support and easing their hardships outside the classroom, we create an environment where they can devote their full hearts and minds to learning, growing, and pursuing their dreams. School should be a place of nourishment for body and soul, a refuge from scarcity and struggle, and a launching pad to a brighter future. When we tend to our students' fundamental needs with compassion and generosity, we give them the priceless gifts of dignity, security, and the freedom to flourish academically.

Ms. Fiori will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by August 4.
