My Students

Where do I begin? The students I have the pleasure and honor of teaching are smart, kind, energetic, motivated, and loving. They have the drive to reach their highest learning potential. These hardworking children range from ages 5 to 7 years old and are such deeply curious learners. They live in a very low-socioeconomic community in Harlem, New York and receive free or reduced-price breakfast, lunch, and after-school snacks.

My students all have unique learning needs as they all have diagnosed disabilities, or as I like to call it "developmental variations." Many of them have parents that are doing their very best to survive but need support to ensure their children are not being neglected at home.

My students have many burdens they are exposed to and it is essential that they feel safe, loved, included, and inspired at school, and that is why I need your help!

My Project

Something as simple as the Ziploc bag will be used to organize manipulatives and hold books for students. The paper towels, tissues, sanitizer, and wipes will help keep our classroom clean. The labels help students find and organize items in the classroom. The scissors, markers, pencil baskets, towelettes, copy paper, index cards, poly binder pockets, scotch tape, correction tape, mechanical pencil, packaging tape, sheet protectors, post-its, double sided tape, pens and markers, pencil sharpener, bulletin board, are all materials that are necessary for me to make engaging activities and to decorate the classroom with student work. The hall passes and timer will help to ease transitions. The folders, notebooks, and bins will allow my students to work on executive functioning skills and maintain organization in all subject areas! I will create a binder for each child with their personal and educational information.

Since my class is a unique class size and caters to the needs of varying disabilities, these supplies will support each student in an individualized way while fostering a cohesive classroom community.

The sensory tools such as the fidget toys and Flex Space Wobble Cushions will provide alternate seating options as compared to the more conventional desk chairs. The job chart, schedule, and magnetic calendar center will provide my students with structure throughout the day while also meeting grade-level learning objectives. The adult chair with wheels will allow me to circulate throughout the classroom with ease. The printer gives me the flexibility to print out and create materials immediately. The table caddies will keep writing instruments readily available for my students and require them to share. The paper organizer and mailboxes will allow me to keep my materials organized to ensure that my students are accessing everything they need to meet their highest potential in our community.
